Amos, an unknown shepherd-prophet and fig tree farmer from southern Judah, has had enough! Israel’s king, Jeroboam II, has shown himself a triumphant military leader, but his success and wealth have plunged the nation into injustice, idol worship and neglect of the poor. God calls Amos to travel north to Israel with a prophetic message: exposing Israel’s injustices and urging them to return to God. The book of Amos confronts our own sin and evil, and calls us to embrace the true worship of God which should motivate us to act with justice, righteousness and love for our neighbours.
